Gloucestershire Airport, Staverton ·In memory

Story

For many years now, Gloucestershire Airport has felt it would be fitting to erect a tribute to all those who worked at and flew from the airport since its opening in 1936. This would include both military and civilian personnel working in the aviation sector, such as pilots, instructors, designers, draughtsmen, engineers, tool-makers, secretaries, administrators, fire-crew, etc.

it will serve as a focus for those visitors whose parents and grand-parents worked at the Airport. We have not agreed the final inscription but it would say something like:

"This stone is dedicated to all the men and women who have worked, trained and flown from this aerodrome since it opened in 1936 . It is a tribute to the military personnel and civilians who died in service at RAF Staverton and all those who have lost their lives in the years since. "

A small committee has been formed to get the tribute built and we are making good progress. We have a design which is essentially a copy of a stone recently erected at Shobdon airfield in Herefordshire, please see above. The memorial will be placed outside the airport Terminal building, where the general public will have easy access.

We aim to have the tribute officially unveiled on Saturday 30th March 2018. A number of local dignitaries and representatives from the local aviation businesses will be invited to the unveiling.

We expect the cost to be about £7,000 and hope to raise this by donations from the general public and many of the aviation related businesses which have historical links with Staverton airport.

If you would like to make a contribution to this tribute stone, please donate below.

We hope that you will support this worth cause.

Thank you to everyone that has already contributed, which has already helped raise £1,080.
