Story

The 1 Hour Project is a nonprofit organisation with a mission to positively impact 1000+ students, who are first in family to go to university, from racially diverse backgrounds.

These students often identify a sense of not belonging and often experience shortcomings in academic preparation. A lack of social and cultural capital and a limited professional network means that they have a lack of role models and mentors. Often time poor due to funding their own studies or due to caring or other comitments, many young people are not reaching their potential.

The 1 Hour Project seeks to address this by building confidence through workshops, encouraging them to identify people who can vouch for them and ultimately, introducing them to industry experts to establish and build networks.

At Step we have been working with young people for over 3 decades, supporting them in their first steps towards a meaningful graduate career through paid internships and placements. We are committed to supporting social mobility and the 1 Hour Project is a perfect partner for us. Many of our team are graduates who have studied through the pandemic and they now want to give something back.

The team have pledged to do a total of 1.5 million steps throughout the month of June.
