Story
In excess of 100,000 people die in the U.K. every year from Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA). Fewer than 10% of people suffering SCA survive and yet with speedy intervention this figure can be increased dramatically. It might be a perfect stranger that requires immediate aid or more likely a loved one of your own and not just adults, SCA can strike anybody irrespective of age or gender.
3 things are required to improve survival rates and you have only a few minutes to get things underway, firstly start CPR, resusitation, secondly get someone to call 999 and listen to their instructions thirdly they will tell you if there is a nearby community AED, if possible send somebody to collect it. Sadly there are not enough AED,s in most communities and I plan to raise the funds to address the issue in our area.
Initially I aim for 1 to be installed in the central part of the Farndon Fields development but I hope to get more, an ambitious endeavour, but I feel passionately about this subject, my life was saved by a paramedic administering CPR and another using a defibrillator. This started a passion to create a situation where fewer people succomb to SCA. With the support of our community I aim to improve the chances of survival even if just a few people.
