Story

GB Disabled Strongman https://www.gbdisabledstrongman.co.uk was founded in 2021 by Martin Tye and Beckie Ingram, the idea was simple - run 1 Disabled Strongman event and let the athletes enjoy a weekend of showcasing their abilities. Since then we have held the biggest competition that Disabled Strongman has ever seen, on the highest platform at The Arnolds UK. This was then followed by another major strength and fitness exhibition FitXpo, as well as running a grass roots competition designed to bring in new athletes to the sport. These events have driven the competition to its highest levels the sport has ever seen and we have witnessed many World Records alongside Guinness World Records

The fast paced growth of the sport, saw us bring in new volunteers to the team to help us drive our vision to expand the sport and take it to new levels. In order for us to maintain the tempo of these high level competitions, takes a great deal of funding and we rely heavily on sponsorship and donations to help with this dream. All of our athletes are fully self-funded and our goal is for them to be recognised on the main stage, alongside the biggest names in the sport of Strongman. Within time, we aim to be able to reduce some of the cost to the athletes and provide prize money, which in turn will draw in new athletes to the sport.

Our athletes are an incredible group of individuals all fighting their own daily battles, we have witnessed them inspiring the wider community and pushing the boundaries beyond that of what they thought possible. When we look at our athletes, we do not see their disability, we see the strength and determination inside them and their unquenchable thirst to succeed, both inside the arena and in life itself.

We here at GB are incredibly proud of all of our athletes and have watched them grow in the 3 years we have been running competitions. We see these individuals not just as athletes, but as family and together we are breaking down barriers.

Our mission is to provide a world class platform, for disabled athletes to showcase their abilities in the sport of Disabled Strongman. Creating an inclusive environment of inspiring individuals, proving to the world that anything is possible and the possibilities are endless regardless of disability.

On June the 1st Sherborne www.sherbornewindows.co.uk staff will be competing in a reconstruction of the UKs Special Forces (SAS / SBS) Fan Dance in the Brecon Beacons, Wales to raise money for the GB Disabled Strongman.

Notorious for its arduous terrain and adverse weather conditions. This is a 24km route march carrying 35lb + food and water in the Brecon Beacon Mountains which is infamous within the ranks of all UK Special Forces.

This is the first major hurdle on selection and an Indicator as to whether a potential UKSF soldier has the physical and mental determination to complete it within the cut off time set by the Directing Staff.

The Challenge begins with an immediate ascent of Pen-y-Fan which is 2907 feet. The route then descends on the other side of the peak with a patented route to the halfway point before Turning around and reversing the route.

The return leg provides an even tougher challenge with the Evil ascent back up the Fan known as Jacobs Ladder.

We will have been training intensely for the next 2 months To insure we complete this event successfully, consisting Of tabbing (run and fast speed March) carrying 35lb + weekly On average of 8 miles in each session.

All donations large or small will be gratefully received with a deep heart felt loving thank you.
