Story
In 2017, I undertook the challenge of the London Marathon just a few days short of my 55th Birthday. As soon as I crossed the finish line, I said I wanted to do it again and I'm delighted to be lining up at Greenwich on Saturday 22nd April 2018 for my second and final (well, probably anyway!) marathon!
As most of you will know, it is now 3 years since we lost my precious little Grandson, Freddie, from injuries sustained in an accident on the M6.
It has been the toughest time for my family to cope with and the loss of Freddie has left an enormous void in all of our lives but we are determined to keep his memory alive and to continue to raise funds in his name.
In 2015, my daughter Charlotte (Freddie's Mum) set up a small charity called Freddie's Wish (Reg No. 1168483). Through the generosity of so many of you, we have, so far, raised approximately £80,000 which is being used to provide free paediatric first aid courses in Warwickshire as well as funding bereavement training of education and healthcare professionals in partnership with Child Bereavement UK (a wonderful charity that have been a real help to our family). We have also provided support to Birmingham Children's Hospital and the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance who both did so much to try and save little Freddie. At our recent Trustee meeting, we have agreed to fund some exciting projects so please keep an eye on freddieswish.org to find our more details.
As I was fortunate enough to gain access to the 2018 London Marathon via the ballot, every penny I raise this year will go direct to Freddie's Wish.
I realise that we all face a lot of requests for sponsorship but, if you can spare a few pennies to support Freddie's Wish and allow us to continue this work, it will be gratefully received.
Thanks in advance for your support.
Steve :)
