The well-known Mr Davis, legendary TA, is raising money for Mathilda who has been in Alder Hey hospital for 5 months before being discharged at the start of March.

Mathilda suffered from a ruptured Arterio-venous Malformation (AVM) that caused a massive bleed, then a clot in her brain. The clot caused a stroke and the Surgeons at Alder Hey had to perform life-saving surgery. The AVM has not been the easiest to deal with and has caused her to have multiple drains in her brain, she got an infection also, which delayed her recovery. Mathilda has had 10 surgeries in total and now has a shunt internally fitted to manage the excess fluid in her brain.

AVMs are not common so we want to raise awareness. We will be splittling the money between The Butterfly AVM Charity (https://www.butterflyavmcharity.org.uk/) and Mathilda's school to support with her phased return.

Mr Davis will also be raising money to support Mathilda for when she returns to school as the stroke has affected her speech and right side, she can walk short distances again now but still needs a wheelchair along with learning to use her right hand again and regaining her words. She will need additional support in the classroom to support her learning.

Mr Davis will run 26 miles, marathon distance in one day on the 12th April. He will run to Wigan ( watch Wigan v Wrexham) and then run back. He has been training for about 18 months and I’m up to 22 miles distance. He envisages it will probably take about 8 hours, he says he is not blessed with speed 😊
