I've raised £200 to donate to the Robert Hill Foundation and Mind charity in memory of Steve Hawley

Steve was such a funny, cheeky, generous, kind hearted and loving son, brother, nephew, uncle and a friend to so many. He was known for his quick wit, had a radiant smile and could always entice a smile out of you, even when you felt like you didn’t have one in you! Steve loved to chat and would always take time to talk to anyone at anytime. With such warm characteristics, you would be forgiven for overlooking Steve’s own battle with his mental health and addiction.
Steve started depending on alcohol and drugs at a young age and was finally diagnosed with borderline personality disorder and mild schizophrenia in his mid twenties.
There are so many different charities, organisations and individuals who tried to help and support Steve over the years. That is why we are giving people the opportunity to donate to two organisations in particular which were very close to Steve. One is Mind charity who arranged meetings to provide Steve with help and assistance and also assigned him with a mentor. The other is Chris Hill who is in the process of setting up a charity, the Robert Hill Foundation, to help individuals who are struggling with addiction and their mental health. Steve would attend Chris’ support groups in Sidcup and regularly called Chris for advice and guidance. Having attended one of the sessions with Steve, I was pleasantly surprised with Chris’ refreshingly positive and uplifting approach to what is frequently regarded as a difficult subject matter.
Although mental health awareness is improving, there is still a way to go. With additional funding, these charities will be able to directly help individuals who are most in need. All money donated will be split equally between these two charities.
Thank you
The Hawley Family
