Story

Sponsor my blisters as I speed walk the Devon and Somerset Coastal Path to raise money for a wonderful project in Wiveliscombe.

The Wiveliscombe Town Hall Trust is seeking to reopen the 175 year old Town Hall as an exciting new arts venue for music, film, theatre and arts for everyone in Wiveliscombe and the Ten Parishes. Closed for many years, your money would help us gain £12000 in match funding for the next stage of our renovation plans.

The Hall was built in 1841 for Alexander Baring, First Lord Ashburton and founder of the London banking house, Baring Brothers & Co.

The Hall has been left un-used for many years and the Wiveliscombe Town Hall Trust was formed in 2006 to renovate the upper floor and return it to the local comunity to use as an Arts cetnre, hosting music, film, thetre and arts events for the people of the 10 parishes.

We need to raise £12000 by December 2017 to gain match funding from the Architectural Heritage Fund. This will allows us to create the detailed plans necessary for the second, large scale, captial funding for the building work needed.

My small contribution is to walk from Somerset into Devon on the South West Coastal Path. Starting in Minehead, I am walking the 20 miles to Lynton in 8 hours, including two ascents and descents of over 1000 feet on October 8th. My son is also taking part to ensure I do the whole walk, plus my Jack Russell bitch.

Our charity is only small and signing up to either charity websites would cost us £200, a lot of money for us, hence the crowd funding route. All moneys raised will go to the charity, of which I am a trustee.
