Story
Our son Alex was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 2012 when he was only 21 months old. Alex endured lots of daily finger prick testing and still does everyday, he had multiple daily injections until his second birthday when we decided to go onto an insulin pump.
He has coped well and is a strong healthy boy. We are very proud of how he deals with this chronic condition. We try not let diabetes hold Alex back but some days it can be relentless for him.
We have plenty of support from Sunderland Niall Quinn Centre who go above and beyond to provide excellent care for Alex and help myself and my husband give Alex the best care possible.
My husband and I wanted to give something back so we decided to do the Sunderland 10k run on the 12th May 2019 with close family and friends. When the team from the Niall Quinn Centre said they would become involved we were delighted. The doctors from the Niall Quinn Centre will be running the race with us and the diabetes nurses will be shaking the collection buckets on route.
We will be raising money for the SCD - Supporting Childrens with Diabetes.
