Story

It’s not a race, it’s a journey!

- 200 power zone rides completed

- 6 months of treatment

- 8 rounds of intense chemotherapy

- Over 10,000 minutes of cycling

- Over 4 stones lost

- 3,400 miles covered (Chippenham to New York)

On 16th February 2022 my life changed forever when I heard the following … "Mr Taylor you have bowel cancer and need to go for an emergency operation".

When I returned home in March 2022 and set out on my recovery, I made a promise to myself that I would beat this!

I focused on taking myself on a mental and physical journey and looking back to when I felt fit and healthy and a key memory was in 2003. I was in America for a year and coached football (my greatest passion) and had the privilege of living and working in New York City.

Throughout my chemo treatment, I got on my Peloton and just cycled with the tunes pumping and watched the miles grow towards my goal. Some days this was a struggle when I felt I couldn’t even get out of bed. My hands and feet were in bits due to the peripheral neuropathy but the endorphins helped my mental health.

Now I have reached my target with two months to spare in 2022 and it’s time to put this great effort towards two amazing charities.

@Ruhxcharity charity (the former forever friends) for Bath hospital which helps provide extraordinary health care in Bath & beyond. This is a way of me saying thank you to all the amazing staff for acting so quickly and for saving my life!

And @Wegetit which was referred to me by my former colleague and good friend Lynne Fernquest. Set up by the lovely Laura Phillips, a local cancer group which offers support whether you are in remission, living with cancer or recently diagnosed. They understand as they have been there. This group has been amazing for my mental health and provided ongoing support for me and my wife.

No one wants or wishes the worst, however, when it happens it is how you react which sees you through. I would be grateful if this effort was recognized in a donation.

Also with my upcoming 40th Birthday in December, I have already been asked about gifts but a donation would mean so much more to me.

Thank you
