    Story

Steve is a Governor at Gunter Primary and also volunteers there to run a Code Club on a weekly basis, teaching children about computer programming.

He is passionate about education and wants to make sure that the school has the best possible facilities and equipment to help their pupils fulfil their potential.

To raise funds, four cyclists from IIZUKA will be cycling the entire 140 mile Coast To Coast cycle in one day. Your support will help us to help others.

You can see more about the challenge at https://www.justgiving.com/teams/iizuka

Gunter Primary's Head Teacher, Lucy Riley told us what they hope to do with the funds raised:

We are planning to spend the money on training two of our staff in the Thrive approach, which provides a powerful way of working with children and young people to support their optimal social and emotional development. In particular, the Approach equips staff to work in a targeted way with children and young people who have struggled with difficult life events to help them re-engage with life and learning. We plan to disseminate the training to all our staff, for use across the school to improve all our pupils life chances.

A huge thank you on behalf of all the children, staff and parents of Gunter.

We did it! 135 miles in 13 hours (of which 9.5 hours were spent actually cycling). We didn't all escape unscathed though, as one of the team had a nasty fall, but got back on the bike and finished the challenge. The scenery was beautiful, the weather pretty good for cycling and the team worked well together to get the job done. I'd like to say a massive thank you to all who sponsored us. Here we are at the finish line - or should that be wave?!

Despite the hot weather, our training continues apace. Here's the team on a 90 mile cycle ride last Saturday! Thanks to everyone for your support.
