Braveheart Industries aims to develop a series of social enterprises that will generate employment and other positive life changing opportunities for people with a history of offending and prevent those at risk from offending. There will be a primary focus on young people. The need for this is clear in many communities and the enterprise based approach of Braveheart Industries will make a real difference to the prospects for individuals, families and communities.
Change is not easy. Many communities in Scotland have families who are 2nd/3rd generation unemployed and reliant on the welfare system and all public services, with little or no control over the direction of their lives, their alcohol or illegal drug use and involvement in crime. Their attempts to exert some control over their lives often leads to violence. This impacts negatively upon their children, families and communities, increasing the fear and anxiety for neighbours which ultimately has a detrimental effect upon our country.
People can become better citizens and communities can become safer and more enriched places by minimising the likelihood of offending and re-offending. A positive strategy for reducing the risk of recidivism is to give people something meaningful to do with their time and where possible full employment.
The availability of employment and supported employment has a positive impact on reducing the likelihood of re-offending and increases the likelihood of people making more positive life choices. This stability and optimism has wider multiplier effects in terms of more positive meaningful relationships, recognition and security including a settled place to live and in developing stronger positive links within their community
