Story

Whinnybank cat rescue (Whinnybank.org.uk) is one of many organisations that are dedicated to the welfare and good health of cats, particularly those that are in distress of one sort or another. There is one major difference between Whinnybank and most other cat welfare organisations and this relates to feral cats. Cats are born feral or become feral when dumped, left by their owners many miles from home. Most cat welfare organisations will not re-home feral cats, they are prepared to have them neutered but it is specific condition that they must go back to where they are found. This of course is not always possible and the outcome for such cats is indeed bleak.
Whinnybank is the only organisation in central Scotland at least that does catch neuter and re-home such cats. It is difficult to re-home feral cats as they do not always make suitable pets and many of the Whinnybank feral cats go to farms where they become valued 'farm cats'. It often takes a year or so to re-home feral cats and there are always upwards of 200 living as ferals at Whinnybank waiting for a new home.
In these difficult times there has been an upsurge in the number of stray cats as owners often discard them in the wild because the can't afford to keep them any longer. Sadly many of these cats are then killed on our roads.
Whinnybank and Mrs Susan Hancock who has been looking after such cats for more than 35 years and is now in her mid seventies is struggling to meet this increased demand for her services and associated feed, litter and vet expenses. She already runs two charity shops, one in Newburgh and one in Auchtermuchty and sells produce weekly in Dundee and St Andrews but needs a little bit of additional help at the moment if she is to be able to get through this current increased demand.
Any assistance you can offer on this site or at the charity shops will be much appreciated.
