Story
My Name is Steve, me and my wife are asking for your help,
In 2014 our son Arly was badly burned when his trendy ripped jeans were set alight by a Yankee candle that was lit by our fireplace. He suffered an horrific burn to his left leg and after several nights in hospital and numerous plastic surgery operations he is now able to go back to being a child again. Being a proud Yorkshire man sitting in a room talking to a psychiatrist about how this was effecting me just felt awkward forced and uncomfortable but meeting and talking to other people who have gotten through the same experience in a more relaxed casual and friendly events organised by My-Burns club like the Christmas party has eventually stopped me from blaming myself and we as a family can move on in a positive way. We now have Yankee candles back in our home but fully understand the dangers and how quickly a situation can change. Through the aftercare support given to us from the charity My-burns club Arly is now back playing football for his local club and acting like the usual young boy. Arly has grown in confidence from attending summer camp team building and trust experiences organised through My-Burns club. Meeting the doctors and nurses who voluntary attend these has made day visits so much less stressful for him. For Arly to meet and talk to other kids that have or are going through the same fears and experiences has eased the stresses no end. Arly is now less insecure and embarrassed about his scars knowing he isn't alone and has friends of his own age he can talk and relate to about things he would maybe not to an adult or even us as parents. My-Burns club is vital part of the physical and mental healing process for Arly his brother and both me and his mum, you could say that My-Burns club is a giant supportive family, a more approachable and understanding family therapist than any psychiatrist sat at a desk in a hospital room could ever be. Thanks to the continued hard work dedication and support from My-Burns club i have become a volunteer myself to help other children and their families overcome this traumatic ordeal. We are now fundraising to give back to My-Burns club. Unfortunately being a smaller charity My-Burns club is often overlooked and doesn't get the donations it deserves. While we are striving to help as many families as possible we are asking you for your help to support.
