Story

The Steve Rayner Memorial Fund for Sport

On 4th July 2018, my husband, Steve Rayner, was travelling to work by motorbike when he was hit by a car and killed. He was 53 years old with two teenage daughters he adored, a career he loved and a million plans for the future. Over the past 12 months, the girls and I have failed to make sense of life without Steve. We think about him and talk about him all the time. Team Steve, initially via this funding page, The Steve Rayner Memorial Fund For Sport, is one of the ways we will honour him going forwards. Sport, along with education, was Steve's route to a better, more fulfilling life. It kept him physically and mentally well through the pressures of study, work and life's ups and downs. From squash and fishing, to snowboarding and golf, the occasional marathon to a marathon game of tennis. Rugby, football, swimming, surfing, athletics, netball, hockey - he loved them all and more besides. His closest friends were his sporting adversaries and partners

Steve found his own route into sport. He benefited from the support of a workplace mentor, Roy Warren at Taylor Woodrow in Hounslow, who supported and encouraged both his career and his squash playing.

Steve was always aware that not everyone is so lucky.

We want to help young people get involved in all kinds of sport and physical activity and stay involved throughout their lives.

We would love your support - financially of course, but also your ideas, your comments, your suggestions. Please donate if you can but also, please stay in touch and check back for regular updates and the launch of Steve's Team in the coming weeks.
