Weʼre raising £5,000 to pay for essential repairs to the historic organ in the church of St James the Great, Barrow-in-Furness (UK).

Story

The Organ is of special significance having been commissioned by HM King William IV in 1837 and installed in St James' Palace, London. Built by Hill & Davison, it was used at the wedding of HM Queen Victoria to Prince Albert and on many other royal occasions before being moved to Barrow in 1869. The organ plays an important part in the Church's rich musical tradition as well as being used for recitals and teaching purposes.

A defective joist has led to distortion of the organ frame and subsequently to damage to the bellows and winding system. The money from this appeal will go to correct the problem with the frame and make good the damage to the bellows etc. Please support our appeal to ensure this magnificent instrument continues to be used and enjoyed by future generations
