Story

We as a team are raising £5,000 for a health/medical cause at both St James and LGI Kidney wards due to the close connection with them through friends and family and recent events.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. Please have a read at our friends Paul and Lucas’s amazing story, plus our own son Tommys lifelong kidney problems which most people don’t know about 🙏

“Lucas and our family are proud to support the latest crazy fitness venture from our friends at St Johns Health & Fitness / Coffee Club on Saturday 20th June.

After three years fighting chronic kidney disease Lucas received the amazing ‘gift’ of a new kidney just before Christmas. We will never forget the sacrifice that his living donor made and we would love to donate a few £s to the kidney charities that support the children and families that have to go through so much on their journeys.

If you would like to donate please follow the link provided. Everything we make will be spent on providing equipment or direct support to the children on Ward 50 at the LGI and the young adults that transition to the renal ward at St James.

Even better if you would like to come along and run, walk or crawl on the day we would love to see as many people as possible. I’ll be running the first hour and will be there for the last hour as the sun goes down. Hopefully, and most importantly, Lucas and his amazing donor will be able to run a few kilometres together!

Thanks in advance for any donations, support and presence on the day”

Tommys story is different, born with chronic kidney disease after a blockage in his urethra which was operated on at birth he has constantly suffered from UTIs and frequent hospital visits to closely monitor his bloods and kidney function. So far he’s been really lucky in life, managing to play rugby and be generally fit and active. Now at 17 years old he’s still under close supervision at St James who have always been amazing at caring for Tommy.

Fingers crossed he manages to look after his kidneys and gets lucky enough to scrape through never needing a transplant unlike Lucas.
