Story
Our current Year 6 facilities are no longer suitable for modern teaching and learning - the classroom is below the recommended square foot suitable for teaching space, has very little daylight or storage as well as having no running water. Through careful management and the support of our local council we’ve managed to raise the majority of the funds needed to redevelop the space but, we’re currently looking at a £10,000 shortfall.
Who are we?
St Mary’s Junior and Infant School is a small, traditional village school in the picturesque village of Mill Bank in West Yorkshire. We aim to give our students the ‘freedom to fly’ and are proud to be consistently ranked as one of the highest performing schools in the borough and the country. This is entirely due to the hard work and determination of all our staff as well as the commitment and good attitude to learning each and every one of our wonderful pupils possess.
Why are we fundraising?
Previous Heads and teaching staff have done a good job of investing a tight budget into maintenance of the school, one of the oldest in Calderdale, to ensure it doesn’t fall into disrepair. However, what we aim to achieve with this refurb is much more than maintenance of existing facilities, it will provide an entirely new space for learning.
The new space will enable St Mary’s to provide drastically improved teaching facilities for our Year 6 children. It will also enable the school to re-purpose the current space used by Year 6 which can then be used for intervention and breakout space for small group work/nurture when needed.
Where will your money go?
- New opening and gable windows
- Strengthening of existing roof trusses
- Insulation, plasterboard and plastering
- Plumbing, heating, electrical and joinery works as well as painting and decorating
Any donation, large or small will make a momentous difference to the teaching of the future generation for many years to come and we couldn’t be more grateful.

Such a worthy cause for a truly outstanding school. The children work so hard and their learning shouldn't be impeded by not having the appropriate facilities.
