Story
The original Chantry on this site dates back to the twelfth century. No village of Sticklepath then, but chosen as an ideal site on the banks of the River Taw enabling pilgrims to rest and pray. Sticklepath subsequently became known as a Quaker village and later John Wesley left his mark after preaching from the White Rock overlooking the Village. There is now a vision of St Mary’s combining its Church role with a heritage centre with visual and inter-active displays as well as hosting the Village archives. This picturesque Dartmoor Village has fascinating stories to tell of moorland, social and industrial changes with strong links to the developing Christian faith of the last 1000 years.
The Heritage Centre development group has successfully applied for a National Lottery grant and are hoping to match fund this with the help of JustGiving
