Story
There is a desperate need for a disabled and dementia friendly environment in Aston Clinton and the surrounding area. At St Michael’s, we are planning to extend our outreach which, at present, includes the Rhubarb Café and the Repair Café, by starting a Dementia Café and a Mother and Toddler Group. But we can’t go ahead without first repairing the existing building and then extending it to include a disabled and wheelchair friendly toilet and a proper kitchen. With the help of Phil Storr, our fundraising co-ordinator, James Adam, raised over £1,000 at a quiz night in February and James has just completed his 80@80 sponsored walks and raised a further £3,600. But this is but a drop in the ocean as the total needed for the repairs and the extension is over £500,000! Work towards making St Michael's a real Open House has already started and some pews have been removed and floors relaid to obliterate tripping hazards. Now we're getting reports done to enable us to accurately cost the work needed so that we can apply to large grant-making bodies for funds to do all the necessary building work.
