Story
Many years ago, the UK had a strong community spirit. People knew each other, said hello to each other and helped each other in the good times and the bad times.
LOVE THY NEIGHBOUR… NO MORE!
Times have changed. UK community spirit is disappearing with only 6% people saying community spirit is strong in their area and 51% said they would not ask their neighbour for help (Daily Mail).
Do you know most people in your street? Do you say hello to strangers whilst walking down the street (or would you think they are weird if they said hello)? Would you help someone in the local community if they were seeking help?
WOULD YOU HELP?
Stockport Seventh Day Adventist Church is a community of people who have a track record in helping locals and in providing space and programmes for the needs of the community. It was established before the war but now has too small a community space to meet growing needs. There was a need to double its footprint so that it can host more people and more activities. It has worked hard and tirelessly in progressing their development of an extra 240 square meters of floor space, through raising funds and actually helping with the building itself. The foundations went in, the bricks went up and the roof has now gone on. The doors and windows are also now in. Around £95,000 has so far been raised locally and then spent on the project.
Now, to complete the building, it is likely that a budget of £40,000 will be needed. This target is in sight but still further away than we would like. The regular giving of time and money by locals continues. At the current rate however, it will be some considerable time before the extra space will become usable. The church is now asking for a little help from you.
We cannot let this new space be unfinished. This is why some of us as friends of the church have got together and have set up this JustGiving page. The quicker we can raise this £40,000, the quicker the church space can be extended, the quicker we can grow community and the quicker we can help more people in the area.
All we ask is that if you have a spare £1, please consider donating. It. It is quick and easy to donate and greatly appreciated. We will update you with progress.
Please share the love and share this page.
Best wishes to you.
