Story
Stockport Snowdrops is a group providing peer support to local mums experiencing pre or postnatal issues. We meet fortnightly in Bredbury, Stockport. The group is an informal toddler group style meet up where mums can bring their little ones and there are toys provided but the emphasis is on connecting with the mums and providing a listening ear, signposting and advice where appropriate.
We work closely with local health teams and often receive informal referrals from them for mums to attend our groups. Volunteers who have themselves faced PND, anxiety or other mental health difficulties after having a baby offer their time to provide the group for mums in the area. On average around 8 or 10 mums attend each session.
From the first meeting, I felt welcome... The group was much better than I expected and have made some lovely friends. After leaving the group I felt optimistic and that I could cope. I would definitely recommend Snowdrops to others struggling with PND or anxiety."
They have helped me to understand its ok to not be ok and to talk openly about post natal mental health because of this I recognised the symptoms in my own sister and was able to guide her to receive the help she needed. Snowdrops have helped my relationship with my son as a bi product of there support which i will be eternally grateful for. They are actively raising awareness of mental health issues while providing support many mums need with things such as a Snowdrops Stroll. They got me through my darkest days with empathy, compassion and support.
Many funding streams will help us with new equipment and future projects but we find it difficult to raise funds for week-by-week running costs. If you feel able to give, no matter how small an amount, please know it goes directly towards running our groups.
The money will be used to pay for refreshments and cakes for each meet, volunteer expenses, resources for our library that mums can borrow from and printing costs to help promote our group in the local area.
