Story
We need your help to fight the £2 billion Silvertown River Tunnel planned for East London. We're a coalition of activists working to have this toxic tunnel cancelled. We've already commissioned a London-wide opinion poll which showed that 60% of Londoners want new investment spent on public transport, safer cycling and walking routes, rather than a road tunnel. When built the Silvertown tunnel will bring tens of thousands of new vehicles a day - many of them HGVs - into Newham on the north side and Greenwich to the south, near local schools and homes. These areas already have illegal levels of air pollution and include some of the poorest communities in London. We've gathered top experts to make the case for cancelling the tunnel and we're planning some big events early in the New Year once the Covid rules are relaxed. But this is a big fight against powerful interests and we need money to fund it. If we don't stop this tunnel now, London will be stuck with a toxic monster for decades to come. This outdated project has no place at a time of climate emergency. Please give what you can to help us defeat it.

Stop the Silvertown Tunnel Coalition
3 years agoHello. Thank you to all who have donated via Justgiving. At the time of writing (31 January) we have £980 of our £1000 target, and we’ll close this appeal on Tuesday (2 February). The fund raising is just one part of our campaign, which is getting larger and louder: in the last month, Rosamund Kissi-Debrah, whose daughter Ella was found to have died due to illegal air pollution in London, has called for the tunnel to be cancelled. So have GPs in Tower Hamlets and Labour branches and constituency parties across London.

Silvertown with its HGV lane just doubles up pollution in Greenwich, Newham and beyond. We can't tarmac our way out of the climate emergency - we need to Build Back Better. Let's bring it to a halt
