Weʼve raised £1,083 to pay a marine pollution consultant, to help us fight plans to dump radioactive mud from Hinkley Point in Cardiff Bay.

    Story

    The problem

The Nukiller industry have managed to get permission to dump over 7 Billion Bequerels of radioactivity from Hinkley Point in Somerset in Cardiff Bay.

There has been no Environmental Impact Assessment and a Marine Pollution consultant has told us that this is an extremely conservative estimate of the radioactivity as the industry have only collected data on just 3 of the 150+ radionuclides continually discharged from the 4 reactors that have operated here for the last 40yrs.

    The solution

We need money so that we can pay the marine pollution consultant who has been working with us to write up a fully referenced report for the Welsh Assembly. There is a petition in circulation which you can sign here up until October 31st. Once the petition is finished we will be able to present this to the welsh assembly.

The licences have already been granted for this dispicable plan and it is up to us to stop them. Please consider making a small donation to help us do this work.

    Petition Text:

"We call on the National Assembly for Wales to urge the Welsh Government to direct Natural Resources Wales to suspend the licence it has granted to NNB Genco, which permits up to 300,000 tonnes of radioactively contaminated material, dredged from the seabed at the Hinkley Point Nuclear power station site, to be dumped into Welsh inshore waters.

We further request that the suspension of the licence is used to ensure that a full Environmental Impact Assessment, complete radiological analysis and core sampling are carried out under the auspices of Natural Resources Wales, and that a Public Inquiry, a full hearing of independent evidence and a Public Consultation take place before any dump of the Hinkley sediments is permitted. "
