raised of £4,040 target by 53 supporters

Weʼve raised £4,110 to fund legal costs in the fight against over-development of the Ziggurat Car Park, St Albans.

    St Albans, United Kingdom
Funded on Monday, 24th July 2017

    What is crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered nonprofit.

The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.

We have now raised 100% of our target fundraising, in less than 8 days, a huge thank you for all donations and messages of support - a compelling indication of the strength of feeling on this matter.

PLEASE DO NOT DONATE ANYMORE FUNDS! This page closes for donations on Friday but we have reached our target now - thank you!

The number of objections posted to the SADC website has risen significantly. As a result, the Proposal will now be heard by the SADC Planning Committee, scheduled for 4 September. This also means the objection deadline has been extended to 8 September.

We have identified significant issues with the Proposal, and have engaged a Planning Barrister to generate an appropriate objection to include issues of process and the concerns of local residents.

Please continue to register your objections directly at (number: 5/2017/1149) and by contacting your local councillor to express your concerns.

St Albans Groundswell is an action group set up to challenge Planning Application no: 5/2017/1149, submitted by Ziggurat St Albans Ltd, to develop the Ziggurat Building car park and surrounding area on Grosvenor Road ('the Proposal').

The Proposal is to build 74 apartments over 7 stories: 3 x 3, 27 x 2, 33 x1 bedroom apartments and 1 studio (see image), located opposite the Ziggurat Building, which is currently being re-developed into 125 apartments. This is in addition to existing apartment developments (e.g. Gabrielle Square, Beaufort House), approx 700 new apartments in total. All in addition to numerous substantial developments on London Road, all of which are located within 1/2-3/4 mile radius, still incomplete and yet to be inhabited.

There are hundreds of new homes developed in this small area of StAlbans, but there are no parks, no green spaces for the many inhabitants to walk in. Pollution is extremely high.

This is an over developed project which tempts investors with high returns at the cost of blighting the lives of local residents. No attempt at providing affordable dwellings for local families.

Too big a development in an already over developed site. Well done for organising, let's hope the council listens

Thank you to the organisers of this fundraising and the other local people who have got together to oppose yet more overdevelopment in this area.
