THIS IS AN EXCITING COMMUNITY PROJECT: entirely conceived, organised and funded by the community and for the community.
Ta dah - all done! And we're so very nearly there in our efforts to raise the money needed for this bespoke stork mural in the heart of Storrington's town centre at Place Villerest. Every little helps and we're creeping towards BINGO! We are extremely grateful for those who have already contributed to this wonderful project. 🙏
£3500 covers the cost of the essential planning process, materials, the professional artist and a helper, UV and anti-vandalism protection plus an interpretation board. The new information panel links the mural to the history and the European Stork Village award in May 2025.
Painting of the commercial property wall commenced on Monday 11 May. It was completed in time for the White Stork & Nature Festival which was a wonderful success on Bank Holiday 23 May. Lady Emma-Barnard from Parham, Isabella Tree from Knepp, the GL local business owners and the artist all attended the official opening.
BACKGROUND:
In 2025 Storrington together with Knepp Wildland became part of the European Stork Villages Network. The old English name for this West Sussex village is Estorchetone, meaning “the town” or “abode of storks”. It's a reminder that these iconic birds were once closely connected with this landscape.
This nature connection is set to be celebrated through this striking new mural which has brightened up our town square and continues to be an inspiration to us all. The Brighton street artist works as @SinnaOne and his design will bring the white stork story vividly into the Storrington’s streetscape. It creates a landmark artwork that reflects both local heritage and a future which is hopeful for nature AND for our community.
