Weʼve raised £835 to buy two adapted chairs for Westmead Day Centre for people with disabilities in memory of Mum

    Story

We plan to buy two riser-recliner chairs for the Westmead Day Centre for people who have physical disabilities. Mum very much enjoyed going to the centre which provides supported activities such as art, cooking and days out. The chairs are useful for people with limited mobility. We’re aiming to buy two chairs (total cost £1,600) but if we raise more, then the additional money will pay for supported excursions for people who use the centre.

We have had generous donations, direct to us, from Sue B., Elaine H. and Audrey H. These donations add up to £205 and take our total (as of 7 November 2018) to £1040. All donations over and above the purchase price of the riser/recliner chair (£1000) will be donated to Westmead to support activities such as outings for Westmead members. Thank you for your generosity!

Very good news! We consulted Occupational Therapy (OT) professionals at Optalis to find the best type of riser/recliner chair for Westmead. Optalis provides adult social care on behalf of Wokingham Borough Council, www.optalis.org. The OTs identified a chair that would fulfill the requirements, an ex-demonstrator model at a much reduced price. We have gone ahead and purchased this chair for £1000 from Advanced Seating Solutions Ltd of Gosport, Hampshire. Attached is a photo of a Westmead member enjoying the new chair.
