Story
It’s been some time since I last took on a challenge to raise money and awareness for charities close to my heart.
But now, more than ever, I am determined to make a difference and raise as much as I can for two incredible causes: Friends of Guys Marsh and Weldmar Hospice.
For those who don’t know me, I’m a former prisoner who once faced the harsh realities of life behind bars. Today, I am proud to be a world record-holding adventurer, but this journey hasn’t been easy. I owe so much of my transformation to the support and guidance of the charities and individuals who helped me when I needed it most.
Friends of Guys Marsh played a pivotal role in my growth whilst I was incarcerated. Their tireless work in supporting rehabilitation and encouraging positive change is truly life-changing. They believe in second chances, and without their help, I wouldn’t be where I am today. I want to give back to them and support the incredible work they do to help others turn their lives around.
But my story doesn’t end there. There were two remarkable individuals, Steve Penson and Ann Davis-Penson, who continued to stand by me after my release. During the tough months of lockdown, they checked in on me weekly, offering guidance, support, and encouragement. Five years later, they are still helping me chase my dreams.
It is with a heavy heart that I share the news that Ann lost her battle to cancer on the 3rd of September, 2025. Ann was not only the treasurer of Friends of Guys Marsh but also a beacon of kindness to so many.
She was well cared for by Weldmar Hospice , and I know she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
In her memory, and to honour the unwavering support she gave me, I’m taking on a challenge. I will be running the Stour Valley Way , a 106km route that follows the Stour River from its source to the sea. My goal is to complete it in under 24 hours.
I’m asking for your help to raise funds and awareness for these two charities that meant so much to Ann and to me.
Please, if you can, dig deep and support this cause. If you're not in a position to donate, simply sharing this page and spreading the word would make a huge difference.
Thank you for your generosity. And thank you, Ann, you will be missed, but never forgotten x
