Story

St Peter's Church in Croft on Tees is a Grade 1 Listed Building that has a rich heritage going back to 1120 A.D, and attracts hundreds of visitors a year from all over the world. It has a range of precious monuments, and a very close connection to Lewis Carroll whose father was rector there for 25 years, and he was educated at nearby Richmond School. Many of the artefacts inspired Carroll to create his characters for Alice in Wonderland.

The church is creating a Heritage Centre with an interactive media centre that will display the life and times of Lewis Carroll and the many other famous people involved with the church over the centuries. Additionally, the church will install toilet and kitchen facilities in an extension to the building for the comfort of its visitors and worshippers.

The media system will also record video material of the excavations in the churchyard and cover the specialist stonemason repairs of some of its amazing stone sculptures that need to be carefully restored to their former glory.

So far, the church has raised £90,000 of the £160,000 needed to complete the project, and we are now inviting friends of the church to help us close the gap through this crowdfunding project.
