Story
I am going to swim the stretch of water from Portaferry to Strangford in an effort to raise enough money to install a communal defibrillator in Strangford. As the local community pharmacist I am only too aware of the needs of the village. We're a rural village and a cardiac events are not uncommon. The quick access to a defibrillator can be the difference between life and death. The device will be secured outside and if necessary can be accessed within seconds.

8 years agoWell, despite the currents and the changing wind we got across in 21 minutes and 6 seconds. Thank you for all your support. We have raised over £4,500 which will be more than sufficient for the defibs, cabinets and training. Any money left over will be distributed to local groups at a later date. Thank you all for all your support both financially and otherwise. It was a fun day and I was overwhelmed by the crowd waiting for me on the quay. We'll get the defibs and cabinets in place ASAP; hopefully within 2 weeks. Thanks again. Shane
