    Story

Hundreds of street dogs in Kolkata scavenge for scraps of food, desperately trying to survive from one day to the next. Many do not make it as they either succumb to disease, starvation or are run over by cars. Of the ones that do make it, many are subjected to horrendous acts of cruelty from street dwelling people that consider them to be a nuisance and torture them for their sadistic entertainment. These are puppies and dogs that have their own personalities and often approach humans for affection but are met with violence or neglect.

One example of this, and where this project started, was around 7 years ago when some local boys brought a puppy to us. Someone had tied fireworks to its back and tried to light them causing a deep wound which then became infected and filled with maggots. However, after weeks of medication, treatment with antibiotics and cleaning the wound, the puppy somehow survived and we adopted him. Scampi now lives with us and is an integral part of the family.

Since then, we have provided many other mistreated street dogs with medicines, food, shelter and care at our own expense, but this is no longer sustainable without further support. We need crowdfunding to help us provide vaccinations and hire care workers to look after and feed injured dogs. Currently we have converted part of our house in Kolkata into a shelter where we are nursing back to health 6 sick or injured stray dogs, but we would like to build more shelters to help more dogs and eventually find responsible owners to adopt them to give them a chance for the happy life that they deserve.

So we are appealing to any animal lovers, or even any person who’s life has been touched by dogs to show their compassion by donating as little or as much as you can afford to help us with this worthy cause.

A big thanks from us and from the street dogs of Kolkata!

Thank you so much for your kind donation and generosity. It is getting quite cold in Kolkata, India and these stray dogs will need hot food with vitamins and minerals in so as to stay healthy. The first step for me will be to complete a mass rabies vaccination programme in January 2017 when I reach Kolkata and then ensure that the very young (puppies die as they are exposed to the cold weather) and the very old are made comfortable indoors. Your donations will make it possible to save some lives this year and so, once again, thank you so much.
