Street Assist is a fully volunteer run, funded and lead street triage and welfare service, and was launched in April 2016 by a group of dedicated and passionate volunteers.

The emergency services are the people we call on in times of need face unprecedented challenges and work extremely hard to keep us all safe, however, if someone calls 999 because their friend is too drunk and unable to get into a taxi, that potentially means an emergency ambulance and/or team of police officers are then unable to respond to more appropriate and potentially life threatening emergencies.

Thats where Street Assist comes in.

We can offer a safe space, organise safe and appropriate travel home, provide first aid and advice, and ultimately, ensure someone isn't inappropriately taken to spend the night in Accident and Emergency or a police station.
It's estimated that between the cost of an ambulance being called and someone going into hospital, it costs upwards of £400 and if we can be there for only one person, thats one person saved from a hospital or police station stay.

Street Assist has no regular or stable funding.

For the most part, Street Assist is a volunteer run, and volunteer funded project. We pay for everything ourselves from fuel and insurance for the ambulance to gloves, sick bowls, cleaning equipment and first aid supplies.

We do an amazing job with the limited resources we have, but our volunteers have an abundance of enthusiasm, dedication and love for what we do.
