Help Us Give a Voice to Families Devastated by Road Death and Life-Changing Injury!
We are raising £20,000 to make a documentary film that shines a light on the hidden effects of road death and serious injury, while campaigning for better support, stronger road safety, and much needed change.
Every day in the UK, an average of five people lose their lives on our roads. Behind every statistic is a family whose world has been torn apart forever.
Road death and life-changing injury send shockwaves through families, friends, workplaces and communities. Yet the voices of those left behind are rarely heard.
We are four women brought together by unimaginable loss.
Mandy's 20-year-old daughter, Anisha, was killed by a driver fleeing police at high speed. He was driving dangerously on both sides of the road and failed to stop.
Yvonne's son, Jack, was killed when his bicycle collided with a refuse lorry that suddenly turned into a side road as the driver attempted to avoid traffic.
Sarah was severely injured. Her mother, Elizabeth, was killed instantly and her two-year-old daughter lost her leg when a bus mounted the pavement during an act of road rage.
Nev lost her vibrant nine-year-old daughter, Ada Zeynep Biçakci, whose life was tragically cut short on 3 August 2024 in Bexleyheath when a bus driver operating under the influence of drugs struck and killed her.
Our stories are different, but the pain of loss is the same.
Through this loss, we found each other through RoadPeace, the UK's road crash victim charity. Together, we found strength, understanding and friendship.
We became what we often call:
"The group we never wanted to be part of .... but the friends we are grateful to have!"
That support helped us survive some of the darkest moments of our lives.
Sadly, RoadPeace closed suddenly at the beginning of this year, leaving countless families without the lifeline that had supported us.
This is the reason for us wanting to make this film!
Our documentary will tell the stories behind road death and serious injury. It will explore not only the moment lives change forever, but the long-term impact on families, the challenges of navigating the justice system, and the urgent need for victims' voices to be included in discussions about road safety. We hope the film will highlight to others that they are not alone.
