    Story

St. Saviour’s Dottery, is the only ‘Tin Tabernacle’ in Dorset in which regular services are still held. The church was built between November 1881 and January 1882. The formal dedication ceremony for the church was held on 4th February 1882. As well as bi-weekly services, the church is used for a number of community events such as Dottery Ladies Stitch & Slurp knitting club.

Maintenance of the church is undertaken by dedicated members of the community to reduce running costs, however at the grand old age of 136, the church is now really beginning to show its age. This year’s harsh winter has taken its toll and substantial repairs are now required.

The community have come together to raise funds over the past few years.  We hold an annual harvest festival meal and have stalls at local fetes, with other ideas currently being developed.

In this country, numbers of corrugated iron churches have dwindled rapidly, and few remain in their original use. We need your help to make this church ready for its next 100 years!

Hi all. I would like to begin with a massive thank you to everyone who has made a donation. Your generosity has been amazing and as a community, we are really grateful. It is particularly interesting to hear how many of you have fond memories of the church; thank you for sharing these. Taking advantage of the October sunshine, our volunteers have begun painting the outside of the church. After much deliberation, we have selected a shade of green, which blends well with the surrounding countryside and compliments the new roof.

Once again, thank you so much to those of you who have donated. With the roof and bell tower now complete, the scaffolding has come down. The next priority will be painting, starting with the inside of the church. We had a good day fundraising yesterday at the Loders Fete. The Dottery team braved the high temperatures and our stall resplendent with fresh Dottery produce, bric-a-brac, jewellery and homebaked goodies looked fantastic. Thank you to everyone involved.

Hi. Thank you all for your continued support. Through the hard work of our volunteers, the roof is now complete and the cross has been refitted. We still have a long list of jobs though, so no-one can relax just yet ! It has been amazing how the community have come together, with so many people giving up many hours of their time. Your donations have made a real difference and we are all very grateful.

I will always think of Dottery as my home as I grew up there from 1933-1954 at Hillview Dottery Road.I played the Harmonium in St Saviours from 1948 -1954. My Parents & Sister are buried there also.
