Restoration of St. Paul’s Church War Memorial Tower & Bells.

The original concept for St. Paul’s Church (Adlington, Lancs) included a tower and spire. In May 1883 the first sod was cut and it was agreed that the north transept, the tower and spire would be left for a future arrangement. The Church was dedicated in Jan 1885.

In 1932, at a cost of about £3,330, the tower was eventually finished to serve as a War Memorial for the Parish of Adlington. The War Memorial Tower honours people from Adlington, Anderton, Duxbury and Heath Charnock.

After 90 years the bells, their immediate surroundings, the clock, and the tower itself, needs full restoration to ensure that it can continue in full use. To complete the work to a high standard, nearly £100,000 is required!

My own family suffered 13 casualties during both World Wars and they are named on the Adlington & District War Memorial. This restoration project is very important to me and my family.

The Church will be launching its own series of fundraising activities, but as Town Mayor of Adlington, I would like to represent the show of support from the community of Adlington (and hopefully further afield) and outside of the immediate Church family.
