I'm raising £5000 to support and raise awareness for local Mental Health Services

Story

In November 2024, my brother-in-law took his own life, a heartbreaking event that shocked our entire family and all who knew him. Despite years of receiving medical and counselling support for his mental health, he appeared happy and content in his final days, enjoying life to the fullest. Scott was known as a kind, caring, and sociable person who selflessly put others before himself. He regularly volunteered at a local animal sanctuary and was someone you could talk to for hours.

The tragedy of losing a loved one to suicide is incredibly difficult to understand and explain. It leaves us with more questions than answers, especially the haunting thought: "If only I had known he needed help." Families affected by such loss also need support and help to understand.

I am planning to run the London Marathon on 26th April and I'm committed to raising £5,000 for 2 charities, a local suicide prevention charity and for a local animal sanctuary that Scott volunteered at.

Suicide remains the leading cause of death among men under 50 in Northern Ireland, with 290 deaths in 2024 alone—far surpassing other causes such as road accidents (71 male & female in 2024)

We are all very aware there is a lack of resources in the NHS to provide adequate counselling so I hope I can contribute to a local charity that provides this service privately. And in the memory of my amazing brother in law Scott, I hope we can help with the care of rescued animals, this was close to his heart.

Here are the charities I wish to raise funds for:

Your donation will make a meaningful difference in providing support for those struggling with mental health challenges and honouring the memory of my amazing brother-in-law. Please consider contributing through JustGiving—it’s simple, fast, secure, and your details will remain confidential. Every gift brings us closer to our goal and helps save lives.

Thank you sincerely for taking the time to read this story and for any support you can offer.
