Story

Our 11yr old Grandson Alex was born with something called Myelomeningocele Spinabifida, it is the most severe form and as such causes multiple health issue's . Unfortunately Alex is totally wheelchair bound and sadly will never have the ability to walk, he has paralysis in his lower body and no feeling or movement in his feet and lower legs.He has also got Arnold Chiari syndrome which involves the lower part of his brain, hydrocephalus, talipes ( club foot ) neuropathic bladder and bowels which means he has to use a catheters for his toileting. He's had many operations and this will continue for most of his life. More recently he has been going through a tough time as the realisation of his situation has affected him mentally quite badly. He started doing Archery and it was quickly noticed that he had a real flair for it and after being spotted at a competition was asked to attend training weekends up in Stoke Mandeville . He absolutely loves this and frequently trains alongside many of the paralympic Great Britain squad. The coaches there have all said he has masses of potential and if he works hard he will have a chance in the future of maybe competing at this level himself which is his dream. To enable him to progress further he now needs a sport wheelchair as his normal one is not suitable for this purpose . Since taking up Archery he is a far happier young lad as it has helped tremendously with his mental health and his self esteem. Any donations towards the cost of this wheelchair no matter how small would be such a help and hopefully will enable him to realise his dreams. Many thanks for reading Alex's story Trish McCluskey ( Alex's Nan ) xx
