Story

We are raising funds to support the urgent restoration of the River Usk, a Site of Special Scientific Interest and Special Area of Conservation that is currently suffering from significant ecological decline.

The River Usk is facing widespread pollution from sources including agricultural run-off, sewage effluent, and other human impacts, which have contributed to poor water quality and rising nutrient levels. In response, community-led monitoring has shown concerning levels of pollutants such as phosphates and E. coli in parts of the river, highlighting the need for continued action and accountability.

This project focuses on practical, evidence-based action. Funds raised will be used to train and support volunteers to carry out regular water quality monitoring across the river network. These citizen scientists help collect vital data on key indicators such as nutrients, conductivity, temperature, and bacterial contamination, building a long-term picture of the river’s health.

Alongside monitoring, we aim to strengthen public awareness and engagement. By sharing data and findings with the wider community, we can highlight the scale of the problem, encourage responsible stewardship, and support stronger action to protect and restore the river for future generations.

Without continued community involvement, training, and data collection, it becomes much harder to track pollution sources, influence decision-making, and drive meaningful change. Your support will help ensure the River Usk is not only studied but actively defended and restored.

Together, we can give the River Usk a healthier future.
