Story

We are Cheryl and Charlotte, student midwives in our second year at the University of Brighton and we both live in Partridge Green. We love what we do and are always seeking out ways to improve our learning and ultimately provide the best experience possible for the women in our care.

We’ve been offered an incredible opportunity to travel to Tanzania in October this year to work with local midwives in hospitals in Dar Es Salaam. The aim of our trip is to immerse ourselves in the culture of midwifery in African countries, to learn from their experience.

The hospitals we will be working in have few resources and this is something we hope to embrace, as with little technology to rely on, we will improve and strengthen our knowledge of birth and learn to trust our instincts. This is something we will bring back to our practice here in the UK and share with fellow healthcare professionals, improving quality of care for women and their families in our local community.

The ‘Work the World’ service will provide us with clinical placement and food but we have to get ourselves there. With flights, accommodation, visas, and vaccinations this will cost us £3000 each! We’d also love to be able to provide the hospitals with some simple infection control equipment such as gloves and aprons whilst we are there.

We would love to have your support in our endeavour to bring outstanding care to women on their childbearing journey. We would kindly ask you to make a financial donation.

Thank you in advance for your support in enabling us to provide a better midwifery service in our local community.
