Story

The Hill Tribe Children of Northern Thailand

These are some of the luckier Hill tribe children of Northern Thailand. They are living in a hostel and are sponsored by Borderless Friendship Foundation so that they can have food, safety and education. Many of the children are orphans or have been sent from their homes as there is not enough money to look after them. They are extremely vulnerable and easy prey for the traders from Bangkok who convince families of the better lives they can offer them.

UNICEF estimates that the number of children under the age of 16 working in the sex industry in Thailand is in excess of 50,000. Many of these children come from impoverished hill tribe communities.

Education can minimize these risks and offer these children a better future. But schools are too far from the villages and often families cannot afford the transport or the uniforms required to send their children to school. During my visit to Northern Thailand last November I visited most of the hostels supported by BFF/BFWA and saw the wonderful work that a small number of dedicated and very hard working people do to look after the children and ensure they have safety and access to education. All this support is financed by sponsorship programmes, donations and fundraising projects. It would not happen if people didn't care.

Therefore....on May 12th 2018 I am walking 60k in the Goodwood Just Walk challenge to raise money for the hill tribe children. Please help me raise £600 towards giving these children some of the basic things they need such as bedding, cooking facilities, clothing.....the list is endless.
