Story

From Summit to Sea

In October 2018 I will be climbing to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Africa. The route is 72 kms and I'll be climbing to an extreme altitude of 5,895m (19,341ft). I'm a keen SCUBA diver, and want to do my bit to help protect our oceans and the amazing and fascinating wildlife it holds. I'm paying for the Kilimanjaro trip and all my equipment needs myself, so all your donations will go to the Raja Ampat SEA Centre, a Non Governmental Organisation in Indonesia

Raja Ampat (translated means The Four Kings) is a group of islands in east Indonesia in the province of Papua - the western half of New Guinea. I was fortunate to visit these islands in April 2017. I cried when I arrived and I cried when I left. I have never seen such unspoilt beauty and may never see such beauty again. It needs protecting. It needs our help.

The Raja Ampat SEA Centre is working hard to protect the area by replanting damaged corals, cleaning rubbish and plastic from the sea, monitoring sea life numbers and habits in the area and helping to develop ways of managing developing tourism in the area so it doesn't adversely impact on its ecology. Through science, education and awareness, and in collaboration with local communities, the Raja Ampat SEA Centre are trying to make a positive contribution to the marine environment in Raja Ampat and the people who rely on it.

Please help me - your donation , no matter how small, will go towards further developing the work of the SEA Centre to protect this amazingly beautiful part of the world.
