Story

All the world is full of suffering. It is also full of the overcoming of it.

(Helen Keller)

Many of you are aware of the One World Welfare Mission campaigns to bring relief and a bit of joy, in various forms, to those in most need in The Punjab Province of Pakistan even though, so far, our focus has been in and around Lahore. Education, Family Food Parcels (which is on-going), Shoeboxes; you've been with us every step of the way. And we, in turn, have been humbled and in awe of the staggering generosity we have received. Thank you.

This campaign is called Boxes Of Bounty. As we sit in this seemingly constant heat and humidity, we are planning for the colder time of the year. The colder time and the darker time. Our aim is to fill 60 Boxes of Bounty and distribute them to the poorest in our community - primarily at 2 Brick Kiln sites.

These boxes will be larger than shoeboxes - anything in size between a crisp box to a box which previously contained 12 cartons of milk. The majority of the content of each box will be warm winter clothing - hats, gloves, socks, warm tops/pullovers. The boxes will also contain food items - not the usual fayre, but confectionery, crisps, cakes etc (luxury items for the very poor); and also small toys. Our focus might prove to be on the young and the old, but we are intending to provide for all ages. Distribution is intended for the beginning of November.

If we end up in a position to also provide some coats and blankets, that would be beyond our wildest dreams.

For this, we again ask for your help. We are very aware of the global damage caused by the coronavirus pandemic, not least to the economies of nations and individuals. Anything you can give to help us bring light and hope in the coming colder/darker months, would be of huge benefit and greatly appreciated. No money we receive is ever spent on travel costs or 'admin' issues. The OWWM policy is to always give ALL we receive to those whose need is greatest. We are the SMALL charity with the BIG heart. We are different, and proud of it. Thank you.

Zara's story. We recently met Zara, a young street kid from a neighbouring village. She was in little more than rags. She is one of six children. One of her siblings is disabled. Her mother is dead and her father is currently too ill to work. Naturally, Zara and her family have benefitted from our Family Food Parcels. We noticed that Zara's sandals had all but disintegrated, so we gave her some new ones at a cost of less than $5.00 (3.80 GBP) approximately. The only words I can find to describe her reaction are stunned excitement. We didn't know whether to smile or weep, such was the effect on this one child.

Zara is not from a Brick Kiln community, but the poverty levels are identical. Imagine what a Box Of Bounty will bring with it. (Yes, Zara's family may get one of the boxes.)

You can follow all that we do on our Facebook ( https://web.facebook.com/OWWMission/) and Twitter(@welfare_one) pages. (Our website is currently defunct, but we hope that we'll have a new one by the end of this month.)

When we do the best that we can, we never know what miracle is wrought in our life, or in the life of another. (Helen Keller)
