I'm raising £6000 to support Sunny Skies Enterprise CIC create an accessible community space

Story

For 7 years now, Sunny Skies Enterprise CIC has been working in Melton Mowbray to create a space of joy and wellbeing. Where people find purpose in their communities and feel like a valued member of a team.

We have set up numerous enterprises, including a community cafe run by adults with learning disabilities, mental health support services, brownie enterprise, card design enterprise, floristry enterprises and jump for joy dance groups and performances!

Over the years we have been struggling to develop some outside space to use for our horticulture enterprise as we believe getting outside is vital for wellbeing! Although we have managed to create raised beds, put up a polytunnel and have made a start on our sensory garden, there is still a looooooong way to go. It requires land levelling in areas and accessible paths for wheelchair users or those with limited mobility. We would also love to eventually offer the space as a glamping spot, to give community purpose to our outside activities, upskill those using the space and generate some much needed revenue.

Every year we encourage the community to pledge to complete 10 miles 'in someone else's shoes - Step Out 4 Sunny Skies!' This is to raise awareness of those living with disabilities and to support us with sponsorship. Over the years this has been completed by trike, in Welly boots, running, swimming and in wheelchairs!

Join our community fun day as we complete our 10 miles doing 5 laps of Melton Country park on Sunday 28th June from 10am - 5pm.

Also in June, we have had an amazing offer of support from one of our cafe regulars, Leon Parker, who is currently in training to complete the Bolton Iron Man to raise funds for this project. Leon will be swimming 2 miles, cycling 70 miles and running for 13 miles! He's been training over 15 hours a week on top of his 45 hour a week landscaping job (as well as baking in his spare time) so he really is putting in the effort!
