Story
#SuperStanley
Stanley wasn't your average little boy, he'd gone through life, defying the odds that were set against him. He was born with a complex congenital heart defect which meant that ultimately he required a heart transplant. Despite regular check ups in Birmingham, and a couple of pacemaker operations, Stanley managed to spend nearly all of the first 15 months of his life at home, being a little boy who loved socialising and smiling, you would never have even known he had a life threatening condition. During November he fell ill and after a hospital stay in Stoke, suffered a cardiac arrest. Stanley survived this due to the staff at The Royal Stoke hospital and was transferred to Birmingham Children's hospital. In Birmingham he managed to improve on a daily basis until he suffered a second cardiac arrest. Stanley defied the odds again and bounced back to enjoy more time with family, smiling and being a cheeky monkey. Unfortunately Stanley was not strong enough to fight the third cardiac arrest and passed away on Tuesday 10th January 2017. His story inspired a number of people to sign up to the organ donor list, but I don't want his story to end there.
Stanley received regular support from The Royal Stoke hospital throughout his life, especially from Dr Ramesh and his team. At Stoke, they never had the technology available to investigate his heart and he had to travel to Birmingham for every heart related appointment as they had the scanners available to get a much clearer and sophisticated image of his heart and it's function.
The appeal to buy a Children's Heart Ultrasound Scanner at Stoke will give children and parents in the local area the chance to be treated locally and for the medical team at Stoke to carry out heart scans, in which in many instances, is a lifesaving investigation.

8 years agoHello, The Royal Stoke Hospital inform me that they are almost at the point of ordering the Heart Scanner! This is fantastic news and everyone here has helped towards giving local children the medical care that they deserve! Due to this, we have been advised to cease fundraising for this cause.. However, Stanley's fundraising doesn't end there. His story is still inspiring many different fundraising efforts. Fundraising now will be for the Donna Louise Trust and can be found here https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/SuperStanley
