Story

(SEE BELOW FOR UPDATES)

On the evening of Monday 18th September, not long after finishing work, our dear colleague Dorota was walking down Manor Road in Chatham when she was hit by a stolen car that was fleeing police. She was rushed straight to an intensive care unit, where she has spent the last few weeks fighting for her life and has been left with many severe and life-threatening injuries.

She is currently now able to breathe for herself, however she is completely paralysed from the neck downwards and remains in hospital, where she still requires extensive treatment.

Dorota is 28 years old. She has worked incredibly hard to become a Veterinary Surgeon, the career that she had always dreamed of. She first started her animal-loving career as a nurse, before undertaking further years of study to become a vet. She now works for the PDSA in Gillingham, a charity that helps thousands of pets belonging to people on low incomes. Dorota is a dedicated, professional, vibrant and active young woman who always puts the needs of animals in her care first and is well-loved by her colleagues and those around her. She has a great enthusiasm for life outside of work; she enjoys physical activities such as hiking and hanging out with friends and is also devoted to her cats.

Dorota is now completely dependent on 24-hour care. She is unable to work and has a long and difficult journey ahead of her that will put her and her family under considerable financial pressure.

For this reason, we have created this page to help and support her.
Please, please give as much as you can.

** UPDATE ON DOROTA - Feb 2018 **

We are delighted to pass on the news that 5 months after her accident, Dorota has regained partial movement in her arms and shoulders and, above all, she remains in great spirits. A few of us at Gillingham PDSA have been to visit her in her in a rehabilitation centre in Middlesex and have passed on all of your support and kind messages. Dorota wants to say a huge thank to you all for your incredible generosity!

** UPDATE ON DOROTA - April 2018**

We are again delighted to inform you all that Dorota has recently been discharged from the rehabilitation centre. Her recovery has been stable and as ever, she is in good spirits.

In May, many of Dorota’s colleagues at Gillingham PDSA will be doing a 10km walk in her honour; for some of us this will be more of a physical challenge than for others and so a real testimony to Dorota’s determination throughout her recovery. We would be so grateful for any sponsorship of which all funds will go towards Dorota’s fundraising page.

Thank you!
