Weʼre raising £5,000 to help support Invisible Cities Homeless guides through COVID-19

What is crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered nonprofit.

The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.

Hello, I am Zakia, the founder of Invisible Cities.

I want to tell you about how we have been affected by the Covid-19 and what we plan to respond with your support!

We train people who have been affected by homelessness to become walking tour guides of their own city. We provide employment and income to them, through our walking tours in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Manchester and York.

Unfortunately, because of the outbreak, all our activities have stopped. This has put our whole organisation at risk but our biggest concern remains our guides as they will become at risk financially. We will continue to support them so they stay safe, self-isolate if necessary and access the right advice. The good thing is that all of them (13 guides across the UK) are at least in temporary accommodation which means they can do all of this, which is not the case for other homeless people.

Even though all our tours are now suspended and we are thus generating no money, we would like to keep supporting our guides with food and basic item shopping during this uncertain time. We have a network of volunteers that will help us get these to them! With your support we can organise weekly deliveries to them all and make sure they have access to at least what they need for themselves and their families. Some of our guides have young children as well and so we want to react now, to make sure that the damage of COVID-19 is limited.

Thank you in advance for your compassion and support in this incredibly difficult and uncertain time.

Our campaign continues as we continue delivering food and house items to everyone- and we have actually extended this to more trainees in Edinburgh and Glasgow so THANK YOU! We are nearly half way through our goal, and together we can definitely do this!

Week 2 of our deliveries. Some of our guides and trainees have wee ones staying in with tm so we are also sending sweets, toys and things to keep them entertained. Sometimes, families can stay in one single room and not being able to get out is no fun! Thanks to your support, we are bringing a bit of joy to everyone! Continue supporting us and continue spreading the word so we can keep on supporting our guides and trainees for as long as it will be needed! Much love and stay safe x

We are proud to report that our first deliveries have taken place and guides & trainees have received their first food parcels in Edinburgh for instance. We actually partnered with local, family-run bakery to do this safely. Thank to your support we have been able to buy bread and cake packs for everyone and Il Panino, an Italian bakery in the Scottish Capital, took care of the delivery. This is thanks to you! This money has been raised by young people from Connell Co-op college who have been working with PIE: Pursuing Individual Excellence on a social action project to help raise money for homeless people.
