Weʼre raising £35,000 to part-fund a one-stop information/lifestyle/e-commerce portal for the macular degenerative, colour blind, blind community.
Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered nonprofit.
The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.
Imagine being told you will go blind in a few months to a few years and never see the world again.
Our story is one of emotional upheaval and the deep will to support the blind community including the partially sighted. There are over 2.5 million human beings of all ages with sight problems in the UK suffering depression, anxiety, separation, loneliness all bundled together with no income.
Sadly, it is not only forcing people to live an unnecessary life but it’s costing the UK taxpayer over £4 billion a year and much can be avoided.
Blind people are more than capable and want to be seen and heard as capable human beings. But society pushes them into a corner of despair.
Our model is a CIC Community Interest Company, and we have a central vetted service to provide what the consumer is looking for and every transaction made from a buy or a sell of a service covering all types of consumer needs for everyday needs will go to create a relief and repair fund for the blind community.
We want to deliver a global sustainable relief fund through trade as opposed to charity giving. We see self-sustainability relief as the new modern way of support.
The World Health Organisation has estimated that in order to achieve the global eye health targets set for 2030, low- and middle-income countries will need to invest $14.3 billion in order to fund an additional 23 million health workers and build more than 415,000 new health facilities.
The global burden of uncorrected Presbyopia alone is estimated to be just over $11 billion annually in terms of lost productivity.
Given that 74% of illiterate adults failed one or more parts of a vision screening it is also thought that providing affordable access to reading glasses would also help bring down levels of illiteracy which costs the global economy $1.19 trillion each year.
Hence the creation of Help See the Blind www.helpseetheblind.co.uk which has taken 1.5 years to get here all self-funded by a few dedicated visionaries.
We must thank William Kent (the Blind Celt) for his beginning. Will was diagnosed with Stargardt’s disease aged 9 and the disease having skipped two generations the family had their lives turned upside down. Will attended School in Perth and found himself being bullied and left out of events and sadly contemplated suicide aged 14 and on top of coping with this, it left the family scraping together as much information as they could to work out a new life ahead for their eldest son Will.
Having sat in tears with Wills Mum Laura in their kitchen it was apparent something had to be done to rectify the issues which were all based on getting information to support Wills new life with his condition it seemed inconceivable the family could not get the right information not even from the incumbent charities in this sector. A lot of web sites were out of date and each time the family met a dead end of despair.
She needed to understand how best to educate her son with his new condition and how to fund it and where to book a suitable holiday and what to buy for technology etc.
Ian our founder started to research the partially sighted and blind community in the UK and quickly learned how complicated it is with no central focus on information or for that matter help. High loneliness to high unemployment to high depression to high anxiety and deprivation seemed all unnecessary.
helpseethebli.co.uk is a central portal of information covering hundreds of subjects as well as a global department store from which just about anything can be purchased with funds from the purchases going to support the blind community. It is a self-financial support prophecy (imagine if Amazon had done this and its trade after costs given to support such causes)
We have also built in a new unique club for just £24.99 per annum giving lifestyle relief through a global network of free services and better than market offers.
Your help will help us get to the next stage of our journey which is to pay for the Apps and to pay for ongoing design costs to deliver this penultimate part of our journey which is a trading platform for the blind.
Please help us achieve this much-needed life service for so many people this will be a legacy of sustainable support.
