Story
1step2step is a Lancaster, UK based charity which supports children with disabilities in a government orphanage in Thailand, called Bann Fueng Fah. Here we strive to develop the children's skills through love, care and therapy, encouraging them to develop to their full potential and grow up to be valued Thai citizens, with their own individual character and personality.
These resilient children have lived most of their lives within a ward in the orphanage, alongside 40 other children; only spending nights away when admitted to hospital. They spend a large part of their day lying on a mat and rarely going out on outings. Caring for so many children with so few staff means one to one attention is minimal.
This summer we, along with 6 volunteers plan to take 6 children to the beach of Hua Hin in South Thailand, for 4 days, giving them an amazing opportunity to play on the beach, in the pool and visit a water park. They will also get to go to the night market and the movies! Undoubtedly this will be a holiday of a lifetime for the children, allowing them to experience life outside the walls of the orphanage. The children have cerebral palsy of varied types. Some have extra difficulties with eating, breathing and seizures, however we are trained to be able to manage these issues.
As you can imagine this holiday of dreams would not be possible without our volunteers so generously giving up their time to support us and so this is why we are asking for donations to help support them, whilst they support our children.
We are fundraising to help the team with their costs towards flights, insurance, accommodation and food. Our charity are funding the costs for the days with the children, but the volunteers are responsible for the rest of their costs.
All our volunteers have DBS check and references and most are known to us personally.
These volunteers will give the children the one to one attention they so desperately need, allowing them to make memories which will last forever.
Back in 2013 we did a similar holiday and it was wonderful! The children had such an amazing time. Seeing the sea for the first time, going down water slides, visiting places they could not have even imagined and all these firsts gave them all a wonderful friendship bond. We are so excited to repeat this trip and build a new bond for those children within our group who have never been and strengthen existing friendships further.
This is why we have set up this page for those who wish to support this wonderful trip. If we meet our funding needs any unused money will be used to make the children's experience even more special, or put towards trips in the future. No funds will be used for admin.
The volunteers travel from August the 16th to 28th and the holiday for the children is 22nd to 25th. With your help we will fill that short time with unlimited amounts of fun and happiness.
