During these difficult times looking after each other has never been more important. We are a group of volunteers fundraising to provide care packages for care leavers within the London Boroughs of Hounslow, Richmond and Kingston.

Care leavers are young adults who have spent all or part of their childhood in foster care or a children's home. They lack the supportive family networks that so many of us rely on during times of crisis. They are living alone and have been hit very hard by the social distancing measures now that they are no longer able to attend college, work, see their friends or attend groups and activities which support them. This is taking a toll on the mental health of young people who are already dealing with so much in life.

Care leavers have told us that they are really struggling with a lack of things to do while they are alone inside all day. We would like to support their mental health by providing materials to help keep them focused, busy, relaxed and calm; materials that they would not be able to afford to buy for themselves. They have come up with ideas including painting, crafts, jigsaws, exercise, board games, baking, gaming, drawing, colouring and watching films and boxsets.

Additionally, those who might normally access foodbanks in times of need are finding this more difficult as the pressure on foodbanks to provide for more people, with less donations, grows. Funds raised would provide supermarket gift cards for those who find themselves in the emergency situation of having no food and no means to buy any.

A donation of any size would be a huge help and every penny raised would go directly to providing care leavers which much needed support.
