Story
This update is shared with deep sadness.
Our colleague and dear friend, Daniel Murphy, passed away peacefully on 1st October 2025, surrounded by his family.
In September 2025, Dan was diagnosed with multiple cancers and faced a number of serious medical complications which led to a sudden decline in his health. He approached everything with the same courage, dignity and positivity that defined his 18 years of service. Despite living with Crohn’s disease for many years, he continued to inspire everyone with his humour, strength and care for others.
On the day this fundraiser began, Dan read through the messages and was truly overwhelmed by the support and kindness shown by friends, colleagues, members of the public and the wider policing family.
All funds raised will go towards supporting Dan’s wife and four children financially, helping them to remember their partner and father as he wished, and to honour the legacy of an exceptional husband, father, colleague and friend. 💙
Dan was a dedicated police officer with 18 years of service, including 11 years as a firearms officer and Operational Firearms Commander - decorated with awards and commendations. Throughout his career, he has proudly protected the public, often putting himself in harm’s way to keep others safe - Beyond his professional role, Dan is a devoted husband to his newly-wed wife, Channon, a loving father to his three young children and step son, and a loyal friend to so many.
For much of his career, Dan has managed Crohn’s disease with remarkable strength and resilience. He is known for his positivity, his early morning gym sessions, and his encouragement to others to look after their health and wellbeing. He has always been there to support colleagues during operational stresses and personal challenges, never losing his trademark optimism. Now, Dan needs our support.
Sadly, Since June Dan’s health has sadly deteriorated. After weeks of uncertainty and several emergency procedures, he was diagnosed in September with colorectal and liver cancer, which has also caused other serious health complications.
Your generosity offers more than financial relief – it gives the family breathing room, comfort, and the ability to focus on each other during this most difficult time. Every donation, no matter how small, will make a real difference. If you are unable to contribute financially, simply sharing this fundraiser is just as meaningful in showing your support.
On behalf of Dan, Channon, their family, and all who love him – thank you for your kindness, generosity, and continued support.
